[...] My late mother used to say in Yiddish; “A sach meluches, a kleine bruches”, which would roughly translate to “you cant get any blessings in your work if you are not focused”. In other words, if you sell sardines than don’t be selling tissue paper. let your clients know what you sell and come for that. Be an expert. You must be asking yourself why am I saying this here? well, because I am not one of those photographers who do one thing, and I often think of what my mother had said. It would be very simple if I decided to be a food photographer, or a travel, or wedding photographer, but I can’t. I love photography and I love doing different things all the time. Like I wrote in my previous post, this is what I learned, on the negative way, from Ansel Adams. [...]

P.S. That is not a photo of me. It's my wife and
we're still trying to figure out why it keeps popping up
in certain circumstances!

Robert Frank.

The first time I saw his work was in his book 'The Americans'. I'll never forget flipping through those photographs in the library. He has such an ability to capture those fleeting, often untold moments that produce such iconic imagery.

Michael Christopher Brown - www.mcbphotos.com

I first saw his China work via a PDN article. Like Robert Frank, MCB has an amazing ability to capture those rare, fleeting moments in life.

I think having Top 20 or Top 10 list just Psychological, isn't. I am not photography historian to comment on the list as a layman I find lot of influential stuff form many photographers. In fact I enjoy all works of the photographers featured in the Photo Book. I am glad that I own it. Provides lot of inspirations.

Oh, thank you !
Some of the names here I encounter for the first time, and going through the galleries of these photographers, I felt really inspired (Raghubir Singh is excellent!)
Thank you, great list!

Quite an interesting list. Clicking on a couple of the links I discovered some work I knew that I'd never known the name of the photographer. I'm intrigued that neither you nor PDN included Steve McCurry - some of your work brings to mind his.
My list would include Steve, Galen Rowell, Ansel Adams, Nachtwey, Tim Page, Reza, Jim Marshall.
